Wins in both senior divisions

In the return to the crease for 2021, there’s hopes for a decent season and premiership after restrictions and lockdown last year.

The Ossett CC has been back for three rounds now, with a mixed performance for all sides.

Steve Coulthard claimed a superb five-wicket haul to help guide his side to victory in their round three match against Birstall at The Venue on Saturday.

He claimed 5 for 55 in 14 overs after Ossett’s respectable performance at the crease, reaching 245 before the 45th over.

Michael Edwards continued his magnificent form scoring 102 from 107 balls before getting caught and bowled by Birstall’s Daniel Marlow.

Brad Wood (50 from 67), wicket keeper Myles Wood (32 from 27) and Coulthard (24 from 40) led the homeside’s batting.

Coulthard caught Birstall’s James Misty out for captain Conor Andrews with the score 2/32, before taking to the batting order.

He dismissed Birstall captain Lee Peters (47 from 89), Bobby McFarlane (17 from 35), Sam Isles (13 from 28), Harvey Flathers (19 from 24) and Connor Teale who faced 6 balls to no avail.

Ossett’s Leigh Learie finished off the lower order, bowling Alex Drake (8 from 20) and Birstall wickie Jamie Hanson (12 from 24). Richard Ryan scored 1 run and Daniel Marlow managed 3 before they finished 9/144 at the end of their 45 overs.

His 2nd division against Wakefield St Michaels CC at home next Saturday, with this win tipping the form guide in Ossett’s favour.

Birstall 1st division edged Ossett out by 10 runs on Saturday in the Priestley Cup.

They scored 232/8 in their 50 overs, after Ossett won the toss and elected to field.

James Keen starred for 1st Division scored 46 from 42 balls when Ossett’s turn came.

They ended up all out 219 in 41.2 overs, which was revised to 230 from 42.

Ossett followed up to win by 29 runs on Sunday, in a home match against Cleckheaton.

The visitors won the toss and sent Ossett in to score a honourable 214 all out after 30 overs. Sajith Warnakulasuriya (76 from 30) was Ossett’s star, scoring 8 sixes and 5 fours.

Joseph Finnigan (64 from 47) and George Hadfield (19 from 38) also helped the score climb.

When Ossett took to the field, Max Chappell took 3 wickets for 9 runs in 6 overs and Dan Busfield took 2 wickets for 34 runs in 7 overs.

1st Division face Carlton CC in Wakefield next week, with the leading form going into the match.
